Floor Boxes Recalled Due to Risk of Fire
August 23, 2019
About 3,000 Garvin Pop-up Floor Box Kits have been recalled because they can overheat while in use, creating a fire hazard. Garvin’s parent company, Southwire, has received three incident reports involving overheating floor boxes, but no injuries have resulted, according to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice 19-183.
The floor box kits were sold at garvinindustries.com, acdcusa.com, cesco.com, gordonelectricsupply.com, platt.com, and usesi.com from January 2016 through August 2018.
The recalled units have either a stainless steel or brushed brass finish. They include two electrical receptacles and two USB ports which sit beneath a metal lid when the unit is flush with the floor.
Facility managers affected by this recall are directed to remove the floor boxes from use immediately and contact Southwire for a full refund. The company can be reached at 888-803-0492 or at their website.
